Project DiSSCo-BG presented to students from Plovdiv and Stara Zagora
On 28 November 2025, Assoc. Prof. Tihomir Stefanov and Assoc. Prof. Borislav Guéorguiev from the National Museum of Natural History at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences presented the project "Upgrading the scientific infrastructure "Distributed System of Scientific Collections - Bulgaria (DiSSCo-BG): Stage 1 (2020–2023)" to students of the specialty "Ecology and environmental conservation" at the University of Plovdiv, and to the Student environmental club "Barbatus" at the Trakia University in Stara Zagora during the National Scientific Conference "Nature and Knowledge: New Horizons for Natural History Museums in Bulgaria" in Plovdiv.
The students got acquainted with the repositories for scientific collections built within the framework of the project and learned how the digitization of the various collections is proceeding, and with the advantages of the Specify platform. In the discussion following the presentations, the scientists answered questions about the compatibility of different forms of digitization in the natural history collections of other museums, as well as the possibilities for implementing the Specify platform.
